UniServices works in collaboration with these centres and has had a key role in the establishment of a number of other business-orientated centres of expertise based in Auckland.Engineering CentresEnergy Fuels Research Unit (EFRU) - Vehicles are a necessary part of life for many of us today. They require energy from fuels to run. Engine testing enables us to design systems which run with greater efficiency. The Energy and Fuels Research Unit (EFRU) specialises in fuels, advanced thermodynamic cycles, heat exchangers (testing, design, analysis), refrigeration (new cycles, alternative refrigerants and analysis), and energy efficiency (modelling and optimisation). The EFRU was established in 1978 (formerly the Vehicle and Fuels Research Unit - VFRU) and has been at the forefront of research and development in the vehicle alternative fuels industry in New Zealand. The EFRU has access to, and has developed extensive facilities and capabilities within the internal combustion engine and general vehicle research area. The unit is also able to offer testing and research services in other areas of the thermodynamics field utilising facilities available within the laboratory.
UniServices Business Manager: Rosanne Ellis The Bioengineering Institute - The Auckland Bioengineering Institute (ABI) is a cross-faculty research centre. Our research deals with the application of mathematical and engineering sciences to biology and human physiology. We aim to improve understanding of physiological processes and the diagnosis and treatment of injury or disease.
UniServices Business Manager: Rosanne Ellis Centre for Advanced Composite Materials (CACM) - The Centre for Advanced Composite Materials (CACM), which was established in 2002, is a joint venture between the University of Auckland, SCION (Forest Research) and other industrial participants utilising government research funding. The goal of this Centre is to bring together the complementary research capabilities of the University of Auckland, Forest Research and other partners in order to conduct pre-competitive research into advanced composite materials and manufacturing processes.
UniServices Business Manager: Rosanne Ellis The Plastics Centre of Excellence (PECOE ) - Expanding the knowledge base of the Plastics Industry through the benefits of research, leading edge technology and co-ordinated education programmes.
UniServices Business Manager: Rosanne Ellis Research Centre for Surface and Materials Science (RCSMS) - RCSMS is unique in materials science and
engineering in NZ, it is a research facility available to University researchers and a commercial facility available to industry. RCSMS specialises in materials characterisation, in terms of composition and structure, from the very near surface to the bulk of the material.
Issues with composition or microstructure can manifest themselves in a number of ways, anything from failing adhesion to suspect particles. Using state-of-the-art imaging and analysis techniques, RCSMS offers the opportunity to identify the cause of problems, potentially saving your company time and money.
