The Centre for Advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CAMRI) at The University of Auckland is the first MRI venture in New Zealand to focus on high-end research work as well as routine clinical imaging. Drawing on a successful track record of research collaborations at the University, CAMRI delivers MRI research expertise and resources to leading commercial and government organisations. Established in 2004, we have a close collaboration with Siemens and enjoy ready access to the latest equipment and software developments for advanced research and clinical protocols.
We work with a wide range of clients, including District Health Boards, private sector researchers and have been involved in several worldwide clinical trials. CoDa Therapeutics is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of a new generation of wound care therapeutics known as “gap junction modulators.”

Neuronz – BrainZ Instruments Limited

BrainZ was established in 2001 to develop the technology invented by Associate Professor Chris Williams and his team at the University of Auckland and was originally a subsidiary of NeuronZ Ltd, a bioscience company that focuses on developing medications for the treatment of brain injury.
In September 2002, the company was wholly acquired by Tru-Test Ltd, a multinational company specialising in electronic technology solutions. NeuronZ continues to provide scientific research under contract to BrainZ.

Saratan Therapeutics Limited is a New Zealand drug development company spun out of Auckland UniServices, the commercialisation arm of The University of Auckland. Saratan is the second recipient of funding from the Trans Tasman Commercialisation Fund (TTCF).
Saratan’s current drug development programme focuses on novel therapies developed by a research group led by Professor Peter Lobie at The Liggins Institute in The University of Auckland. Professor Lobie’s work is focused upon identifying cancer targets that are associated with poor outcome and cause an increased resistance of tumours to traditional therapies, and/or result in the increased invasive and metastatic potential of tumours. Professor Lobie is an expert in the field of developing monoclonal antibodies that inhibit the action of these targets in cancer and are potentially active as new anti-cancer medicaments.
Symansis
Biotech company Symansis is hoping its Australian acquisition will give it a quantum leap in growth.
The company, which has laboratories in Auckland and Timaru, has purchased specialist protein manufacturer Apollo Cytokine Research for A$500,000 ($627,000) from ASX-listed parent company Apollo Life Sciences.
The Australian business develops, manufactures and sells specialist proteins for use in drug research, while Symansis is a developer of tools which help researchers predict the effects - both desirable and undesirable - of potential drugs.
