Māori Innovation

Nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi

With your basket and my basket, the people will thrive

UniServices and Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland see increasing engagement with Māori and the Māori economy as a responsibility and priority. We are working to deepen relationships to better understand and deliver on the impacts Māori are seeking.

The University hosts Māori research centres including the James Henare Māori Research Centre, MĀPIHI: Māori and Pacific Housing Research Centre, Tōmaiora - Māori Health Research Group, the Dame Mira Szászy Research Centre for Māori and Pacific Economic Development and Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga.

UniServices aims to work with Māori in innovative ways. For example, University researchers wanted to ensure a start-up based on Māori land and resources in Ruatoria would create employment, knowledge and opportunities and maintain ahi kā oversight over the brand story. UniServices worked with stakeholders to create a unique structure to meet these goals.
